Troubleshooting Monitor Issues on Windows 10
QUICK REVIEW GUIDE
All monitor settings, on the local machine, can be modified from within Windows 10 Display Settings.
There are 2 ways to navigate to the Local Machine’s Display Settings tool.
- If Cortana Search Bar is enabled (Circle Icon, or the search bar on the taskbar), you can simply type in the search field: “Change Display Settings” which will give you the application titled “Change Display Settings” Best Match, that can be launched.
- Or click on the Windows icon, then click the Gear icon (Settings Icon), and then click on the “System” tile. This will open directly to the Display Settings tool.
If multiple monitors are connected and recognized, the Display Settings window will present a count of the monitors connected to the device. Monitors that are active, according to the settings, are filled white. The selected monitor is filled blue, and any inactive monitors that the system recognize as connected but not in use, will be filled grey.
The settings for each of the monitors are independent, and must be configured individually.
The items in order, from the top of the settings window, to the bottom is as follows:
- Brightness
- Night Light (For Night Use to Minimize Blue Radiation)
- Scaling and Layout settings to increase display item size (use this option to adjust item size, NOT the Screen Resolution Settings!!!)
- Resolution Settings for crisp display presentation. The lower the resolution, the more distorted the display (fuzzy images).
- Orientation (Typically used for Tablets or Vertical set monitors) – Landscape is default.
- Multiple Displays – This is the setting to enable and define the monitors role. “Extend these displays” will give the working staff more work area while using their PC.
